Total world production/consumption (as of 2005) is approximately 84 million barrels per day (= Mbbl/d)
1 barrel (American) = 158,984 liter = 42 USA Gallons

About 10% of this volume pertains to fossile liquid fuels from tar sands, natural gas etc.
Oil consumtion in the 14 countries that consume most (year ?)
One can see that in the year pertaining to this table, the USA alone consume more than China, Japan, Russia, Germany and India together !

Table derived from: http://dictionnaire.sensagent.com/petroleum/en-en/#definitions, d.d. November 27th 2008
China
Since ca. 1992 China consumes more oil than it produces, so, imports increase and increasingly so.
India
The second most populated country in the world increases oil consumption exponentially, whereas oil production seems to remain equal over the last 15 years, after 1995. Consequently imports rise enormously, but, in 2007, still only half the amount China imports: 2 million barrels / day versus 4 million.
USA
One can see from the table above that in the year pertaining to this table, the USA alone consumed ca. 20 million barrels of oil / day, more than China, Japan, Russia, Germany and India together ! It amounts to almost one quarter of the total world oil consumption, that being 84 million barrels per day (= Mbbl/d).
